Michael Jackson’s Memorial: my highlights

Posted on: 7 July 2009

To watch the Mj’s memorial yesterday was just so.. BIG.

I tried to cover down the feeling and realize much of the whole thing seemed to hint forcedly at grief but then I also realized darn… world miss now a true legendary artist.

Therefore my grief was just normal, natural… apt.

MJ’s legacy transcends so many barriers. Artistically to me he’s more than Frank and more than Elvis and so all the circus around him disappears in front of the true power of untoucheable art.

And so, I watched it all and felt emotional rushing and it was just so soulful what I reckoned in most of the performances and speeches at the Staples I am happy I decided to turn on CNN and watch it live from Italy. Karim came way later, but in time to catch the MOST BEAUTIFUL performance of the night: Stevie Wonder. I cried all along. The power of his voice was like a mirror over his grieving soul. That is the true power of music art, namely to speak directly from an heart to all hearts around. Stevie with his own personal legendary status did it awesomely.

I also enjoyed a lot John Mayer’s performance. This man’s guitar skills are what makes him good and great first and foremost, and makes me forget he’s a douche most of times (although I love him nonetheless, and how could I not to, adoring M5). Loved that he chose not to sing, cos he couldn’t touch MJ (Usher, learn from this: you can’t either!) and let music express all feelings instead. And his guitar spoke a marvelous cheering to MJ. Indeed. Notes over words… in a wonderful way.

Loved all the speeches, particularly Magic Johnson, Smokey Robinson and Brooke Shields’s ones. It was touching.

Damn… the way world mourns is also touching. I hope what will last is MJ message of breaking barriers of race and religions and make the world more unite and good. That was also Lennon’s one. And Lennon is the only one I compare as for legacy to MJ (that’s personal, I know).

Hope he’s fine right now. Dancing and singing and just watchin all from above. His art is so HUGE it will neaver leave us.

R.I.P. (and I didin’t want to be cheesy… GOSH!!!)
